Elaine Wood 1929-2019

My aunt Elaine Wood was born on Thursday 7th March 1929 the younger daughter of Albert Edward Wood and Louisa Mountford. She was baptised on the19th April 1929 at Bagnall St Chads. Over the years I have been told on the day of my aunt's christening one her godmothers said she looks like a Violet and so she was baptised Elaine Violet Wood, which over the years as caused confusion because this name was added onto official documents. See birth and baptism certificates.

At approximately the age of five my aunt attended Bagnall School with her elder sister Iris Johnson nee Wood (my mother). At the age of eleven my aunt would go by the school bus to Endon Secondry School which had opened in the Spring of 1939. After leaving school my aunt's first and only occupation was working for Stoke-on-Trent City Council. This then amalgamated to Staffordshire County Council and Elaine proggessed up to become the Area Careers Officer in the Education Department. My aunt enjoyed her holidays travelling to such places including Italy, Austria, Switerland, Isreal, Bulgaria, Germany, France, and others I cannot remember.

My aunt's hobbies were gardening, dressmaking and knitting. She also showed a keen interest and helped in my family history research. She would drive us around to locations such as the Latter Day Saints family history centre and many churches. My aunt was a was a very meticilous person and did not tolerate tardiness in anyone. So her assistance was very much appreciated by acurately coping the information of the records which were only available on film or micro fiche, registers and Memorial Inscriptions. She also attended church and was on the committee of Bagnall Women's Institute. In the early hours of Wednesday 18th December 2019 my aunt sadly died in the Haywood Hospital.
